CLASSROOM
After substitute teaching in the Berkeley, Oakland and West Contra Costa school districts in east San Francisco Bay area, California.
I did my student teaching and had my own classroom at San Leandro High School.
PRESENTLY
I count myself fortunate to teach at a diagnostic/prescriptive, supplemental educational company called Sylvan Learning Centers.
Maybe you've seen our commercials?
I teach Math Essentials, Algebra, Geometry, Reading, Writing, SAT Prep
and my favorite of all, Study Skills. Our center has done so well, the state has recognized Sylvan courses as "for credit"
alternatives to summer school for both our Geometry and Algebra programs. I've been working for Sylvan on and off since 1994
and still believe in the educational quality of the programs, the methods and staff.
I've researched all the Sylvan wanna-be companies, and I would unhesitatingly
recommend the Sylvan systems over any other. Primarily because of the
individual attention and lessons a student can have when the student teacher
ratio is 3:1. I've done private tutoring as well, and find student become
less dependent on the tutor, and therefore transfer their new skills to
the classroom faster at the 3:1. It simulates the classroom just enough
to give students confidence, support, but most of all independence.
If you're child isn't making the grade check out
Sylvan Learning Centers.
If
you've got a teaching credential going to waste, you can't beat the rewarding
experience of keeping your skills sharp and letting the kids keep you
young with a part-time gig at Sylvan. Plus, once you're mastered on the
programs, you can teach in any major city at any Sylvan Center.
